Supercalifragilistic Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare

1900 Park Fare

The Supercalifragilistic Breakfast is a Character Dining, all-you-care-to-enjoy buffet located at 1900 Park Fare is located in Disney’s Floridian Resort & Spa.  It is a Victorian carousel themed restaurant that opened back in 1988 and has remained relatively the same, except back then it had an alternative entrance.  The breakfast is moderately priced with Disney giving it two dollar signs ($$), and some dining plans are accepted (table service credit).  Breakfast is from 8:00 am – 11:50 am every day.

We arrived on time and were greeted with big smiles by the hostesses who checked us while boasting that the Supercalifragilistic Breakfast was the best buffet on Disney World property.  I was fairly skeptical because we’ve enjoyed some great breakfasts at other Disney restaurants, but ready to see if it would meet up to their claims.  While we waited for our table, the kids helped themselves to the complimentary water and eyed the jewel-blue mints.  What is it with kids and those water dispensers?  Maybe it’s just mine, but it’s like bees to honey for them.  At any rate, it kept them happy during the small wait.

We were one of the first tables to be seated in the second dining room and it was nice to not be crowded.  I’ve heard that some people found the restaurant loud, and I didn’t find it any louder than other character dining meals, and even some non-character ones.  The dining room decor has the soft pinks, beiges with touches of soft green, which could either be due to the Victorian theme or because of the 80’s influence of pastels.  It was hard to tell.  I found it difficult to get a good picture with the lighting, being in the second dining room meant we had some natural light from the back doors, but overall the lighting was dim.  The only reason it was even an issue was that it was character dining hence the need for photos, otherwise, I wouldn’t have thought twice about it.

Our server was fantastic.  She was quick and available and juggled many tables effortlessly.  She helped us with timing our trips to the buffet so we didn’t miss any characters.  That’s another thing I liked about the Supercalifragilistic Breakfast, the characters came by in a cluster, one right after the other, so it didn’t take up all our time and we were able to visit with each one.

Tigger spent a little time playing peek-a-boo with the kids from behind the doors, making them giggle.  It’s the little things that really makes the Disney Magic.  Tigger is stationed in the old lobby with a pretty backdrop and lots of space, which is great for a quality, group picture.

Most restaurants at Walt Disney World have a separate food station geared with kid-friendly food, however, at 1900 Park Fare the buffet counters are at an appropriate height for their little guests.  Not only does this let kids help themselves, but it also makes them feel special.

The food was delicious and having a carafe of coffee on the table was perfect.  I was impressed by the selection of food.  I especially liked the smoked salmon and the cheesy hash browns.  The blintzes were a nice addition, and the cheese danish pastries were good.  The bacon was just the average paper-thin, Disney bacon which is always disappointing, however, the carved ham was fantastic.  My eggs benedict was way undercooked, but Dan’s was cooked perfectly.  My only real complaint was that I couldn’t try it all!  I didn’t even get to the omelet station or make a breakfast burrito.

The most interesting thing at the buffet was the Strawberry Soup which I wasn’t too sure about but decided I should at least give it a try.  I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious it was.  I was expecting it to have a yogurt base, but instead, it had a deep, creamy strawberry flavor to it.  I really enjoyed it, and when one of the cast members asked if I had tried it, he offered the recipe card so I could make it at home.

The characters each came around and spent a few minutes with the kids, it was pretty quick and not as interactive as some of the other character dining experiences we’ve had.  I would have liked to have had them spend just a little more time.  I felt like I was rushing just to snap a picture and then they were off to the next table.  However, each character really played the part and had the kids laughing.  We were especially impressed with Mary Poppins, she was delightful and as proper as expected.

Even though Josiah’s birthday is at the end of May, we were actually at the restaurant to celebrate his birthday.  We kept trying to schedule a party with friends but each time we did things would come up and get in the way.  Finally, after 3 months of trying, we realized a party just wasn’t going to happen so he asked if we could just go to 1900 Park Fare instead.  Our reservation was first thing in the morning and we almost forgot why we were there until I saw the server bringing a cupcake to another child.  Boy did I feel like the worst parent on earth!  Even more so after Josiah informed me that it didn’t matter we didn’t remember, he still thought it was a great birthday celebration.  Awww, sorry, my sweet boy!  The life of a third child.  Our server was kind enough to quickly run back and grab Josiah a cupcake to make sure it truly was a celebration.

Did I think it was the best buffet at Walt Disney World?  It was definitely in the running.  Between the food and the friendly service, it will certainly be on our short list when we want a good breakfast.  As far as the character experience goes, we’ve had better and longer interactions at other meals, but it was fun to meet Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland.  I found the Mad Hatter a little annoying, but I’m pretty sure Alice did too, kudos to his performance.  Mostly, I’d like to go back and try some of the other food options available some day.

Love it, and it made me hungry – Yum! My favorite pic is the one of the kids with Tigger, with the castle in the background – perfect!
