Night at the Polynesian Resort

This week we spent a night at Disney’s Polynesian Villiage Resort.  The kids chose to go there as a way to celebrate their success in the previous school year.  We aren’t much for crowds and decided to wait until everyone was back at school to take our mini vacation.  It was well worth waiting, the resort was very quiet and we had a blast.

We arrived first thing in the morning so we could get as much time in at the pool as possible before the effects of tropical storm Gordon made its way over to us.  It turned out we were even too early for the pool, so we had a quick breakfast up in the King Kamehameha Club first.

The pool was amazing, the water was on the cooler side, but as the day went by it felt good with the hot sun beating down on us.  I lost count of how many times the kids went on the slide.  All three kids decided this is their favorite Disney resort slide so far.  One of the great things about vacationing at the Disney resorts is that the lifeguards are excellent at their job and are great with the kids.

The splash pad at the Polynesian is huge! Josiah spent a lot of time playing on it. He’s been eyeing this splash pad for a while now whenever we would go to the resort for Dole Whip.  Thankfully it didn’t disappoint!

Sure enough, the clouds eventually came rolling in and it started to pour, so we went back up to the King Kamehameha Club and had some lunch.  The club offers many board games that you can borrow, so the kids played a little Clue (Disney version) while we watched the Contemporary resort disappear behind the rain, and then reappear a few minutes later.

After everything cleared up we swam some more and participated in some poolside games.  After dinner, the kids played  Switchgames on the lawn, but we didn’t stick around for the outdoor movie because we were just too tired.

We did take some time to cash in our Dole Whip leis that we had won in a game earlier.  Our partner had to lie on the ground holding an ice cream cone in their mouth while we dropped scoops of ice cream standing above them.  I wish I had gotten pictures of it, but I was too busy dropping ice cream on Dan’s face.

We had plans to watch the fireworks but we were just too exhausted!  Instead, we went to bed early that night and watched the movie Ratatouille, then had a good night sleep.  The next day was a lot more of the same…swimming, pool games, eating etc.  All the things that make for a great vacation!

Even though we checked out around noon time, we stayed and enjoyed the facilities all day.  Having the club available until the end of check out day made the vacation feel longer than it actually was.  Eventually, we did end our stay after having desserts while watching the fireworks at Magic Kingdom, through the big window of the King Kamehameha Club.
