Not-So-Poison Apple Cupcake

Not-So-Poison Apple Cupcake

The Not-So-Poison Apple Cupcake is one of the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party’s all day offerings.  That means you don’t actually have to attend the party to enjoy this exciting treat! That being said, the reality of this treat, in my opinion, was somewhat disappointing.

I say, somewhat, because the sheer size of it alone is impressive, but I was looking forward to the shiny red dome with delicately placed shards of candy, instead of the blotchy, dull-red, that we got.  Still, it did resemble an ominous looking apple and was tempting enough to eat.

So let’s deconstruct this gigantic cup of sweetness that just happens to be the largest cupcake ever served in Magic Kingdom.  First, way down deep at the bottom is a layer of delicious spice apple cake.  The cake was my favorite part and in my opinion, would make a wonderful dessert all on its own.  It tasted like homemade cake, with prominent apple and spice flavors and not like bland store-bought versions.  Next is a layer of pecan praline that compliments the cake perfectly.

Then a layer of white buttercream, which I assume its purpose is to create color contrast for the red “apple” dome, which is also buttercream. The dome is sprayed with red luster to make it extra shiny, but I think they either forgot to do that with ours or maybe changed it to a darker matte spray.  I prefer the look of the shiny ones.  The candy shards that surround the dome are the same that’s found on candy apples.  Then white cinnamon roll icing is drizzled on the top, and a small piece of licorice creates the stem

Things I liked about the Not-So-Poison Apple Cupcake were the cake itself and how spongy and dense it was, that it’s served in a cup, and the originality and creativity of the whole concept.  It is definitely unique and fun.

So what didn’t I like about it?  My biggest complaint was how unbelievably sweet it was.  It was basically sugar, on sugar, on sugar, on sugar, with sugar, topped with sugar, and a touch of sugar for decoration.  There’s a good two to three inches of frosting before you even get to the cake.

I realize that there are a lot of people with a sweet tooth out there, but even my sugar-loving daughter found it a bit overwhelming.  That’s saying something!

If the Evil Queen had really wanted to do Snow White in, she should have just given her the Not-So-Poison Apple Cupcake.  There isn’t a kiss in the world that would have woken her from that diabetic coma!

It’s also one of the pricier treats served.  I happen to think the size and all the elements involved justify the price, however, it looked like it was made in a rush and not to the standard I was expecting.  Not a huge deal, but just kind of irking.  Speaking of the price, the Not-So-Poison Apple Cupcake will set you back $6.99 plus tax.

So would I recommend the Not-So-Poison Apple Cupcake? Yes, I would, if you have someone with whom you can share, if they really like sweet treats, and if you have the budget for it.

You can find this treat at the Main Street Bakery located at Magic Kingdom Park, Main Street, U.S.A.
