National Craft Month…

NQ 8

March is National Craft month, so the kids and I have been busy being crafty.

I’ve finally started a new quilt, one for a very special person in my life.  This particular quilt is for my Nanny.  Not the babysitting kind of nanny, the British Grandmother kind.   I’ve wanted to sew a quilt for her for a while now, and I’ve been looking for just the right fabric and pattern.  Something beautiful, classic and elegant just like Nanny.

The Princess and I took a trip out to the fabric store and scoured the isles searching for the perfect selection of fabrics.  I must have looked at every single quilting fabric they had in stock with the help of my Princess.  She had a lot of suggestions.  A lot!  Slowly, the painting came together and we choose 4 beautiful fabrics with a very classic, vintage feel to them.  Standing alone they had a bit of a farmhouse feel to them but paired up with a beautiful white fabric they took on an elegant feel.  The contrast is delightful.

I know they’re the right fabrics when I fall in love with them!

Such wonderful fabrics required an equally pretty pattern to display them properly and I decided on the double pinwheel.

It’s a lovely pattern.

I plan on finishing the quilt off with scalloped edges and quilt it with beautiful flowers throughout the whole quilt.

Hopefully, it’ll be finished by the time we head out to Canada in the next couple weeks.  I would love to surprise Nanny with the quilt and spend some time with her.

For those of you who have the pleasure of knowing Nanny, please do not mention the quilt to her!
